Meeting Description:

The Romance Linguistics Forum represents all approaches towards the study of
Romance Linguistics, both theoretical and applied, at the Modern Language
Association (MLA). The Forum is putting forth a call for papers for its
guaranteed session at the 2020 MLA Annual Convention, which will take place in
Seattle, WA from January 9 through January 12, 2020. Selected presenters need
to be current MLA members by April 7, 2019 in order to be able to present in
the 2020 convention.

The title of the 2020 guaranteed session is High Impact Practices (HIP) in the
Teaching of Romance Linguistics.

[Enrichment of Romance linguistics teaching/learning through service and
research projects, study abroad, freshman seminars, collaborative learning,
and other HIPs.]

Call for Papers:

The goal of this roundtable is to explore opportunities for promoting
linguistic and cultural competencies through High Impact Practices (HIPs), as
well as to establish avenues for their meaningful integration into teaching
and research.

Within the context of HIPs, each presentation may highlight a different aspect
of the topic: establishing powerful relationships with the local community
through service-learning, incorporating HIPs into one’s research, fostering
undergraduate and graduate research through project-based learning, and
exploring careers outside academia in the field of Romance Linguistics through
entrepreneurship and internships.

We invite submissions about projects working within all Romance languages,
especially languages other than Spanish. Please submit a 300-500-word abstract
and a brief bio by March 10, 2019 to Svetlana V. Tyutina (styutina at csun.edu).
