Description:

The Department of Modern Languages at DePaul University invites applications
for the inaugural Hidai Bregu Visiting Endowed Chair for Albanian Studies, a
full-time non-tenure-track faculty position. The successful applicant will be
able to demonstrate exceptional achievement as a scholar, teacher, or
professional in one or more areas related to the study of Albanian language
and culture.

The Endowed Chair will be responsible for maintaining an active research
program in an area related to Albanian Studies; teaching 4-6 quarter-length
courses per year in her/his field of expertise, Albanian Studies, and/or
Albanian Language; and service to the Department of Modern Languages and the
university. Additionally, the first Hidai Bregu Visiting Endowed Chair will
have the rare opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the field of
Albanian Studies by leading the development of a program from its inception.
The balance of responsibilities among research, teaching, and service will be
determined on an individual basis. The successful applicant should be able to
teach effectively in Albanian and English.

We seek an individual who will enhance the university and the department’s
commitment to representing a rich diversity of faculty and research interests.
We seek candidates whose expertise would complement the existing strengths of
the department and the university, especially with regard to the university’s
urban, Vincentian mission, including those whose work crosses traditional
disciplinary boundaries. Specializations may include (but are not limited to):
- Albanian, Albanian diaspora, or Albanian-American literature, film, theater,
creative writing, or other cultural production, including both scholars and
artists;
- Religious studies, history, anthropology, sociology, economics, urban
studies, media studies, or political science of Albania, the Albanian
language, the Albanian diaspora, or Albanian-Americans;
- Linguistics, including morphosyntax, semantics/pragmatics, phonology,
typology, history of Albanian; sociolinguistics, language contact, or applied
linguistics (including L2/Ln acquisition) focused on Albanian or the Albanian
diaspora;
- Comparative literature, translation, cultural studies, feminist/gender
theory, ethnic studies or other area studies with a focus on Albania, the
Albanian language, or the Albanian diaspora.

Appointment of the Hidai Bregu Visiting Endowed Chair will be made for a
period of two years, with the possibility of extending the position for up to
a maximum of five years, contingent on positive annual reviews. Appointments
at the rank of full professor are most desirable but not required.

We seek candidates from within and beyond academia with a commitment to
undergraduate education, experience working with individuals of diverse
cultural backgrounds, and sensitivity to the educational goals of a
multicultural student population. We particularly seek candidates who mirror
the diversity of the university and its surrounding urban community, and we
specifically solicit applications from women, people of color, and individuals
from other historically under-represented groups.

Applicants should submit materials electronically at the application link
provided below.

Review of applications will begin March 15, 2019 and the position will remain
open until filled.

The appointment is to begin September 2019.

Application Deadline: 15-Mar-2019 (Open until filled)
