Meeting Description:

The SAALT/SALALS conference takes place from 30 June to 04 July, 2019, at the
University of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa.
The language-institution-ecology morning will be organised by William Kelleher
(william.kelleher at up.ac.za) and can host four papers. The morning will be
introduced with a keynote address given by Béatrice Fraenkel (EHESS, School of
Advanced Studies in Social Sciences, chair Anthropology of Writing, Paris).
The emphasis will be on the materiality of language, practices, and the
growing need to involve the humanities in the fight against climate change. In
fact, this call is designed for those papers that explore the links between
sociolinguistic, or applied linguistics, and climate change/ecology.

La SAALT/SALALS conférence se déroulera du 30 juin au 04 juillet, 2019, à
l’Université de Pretoria, Gauteng, Afrique du Sud.
La matinée langue-institution-écologie est organisée par William Kelleher
(william.kelleher at up.ac.za) et peut accueillir quatre présentations. Elle sera
introduite par Béatrice Fraenkel (EHESS, chaire Anthropologie de l’écriture,
Paris). L’accent sera mis sur la matérialité de la langue, ses pratiques, et
la nécessité croissante d’impliquer les sciences humaines dans la lutte contre
le changement climatique. De fait, cet appel concerne tout particulièrement
les contributions qui exploreront les liens entre la sociolinguistique, ou la
linguistique appliquée, et le changement climatique/écologique.

Call for papers for a morning LANGUAGE – INSTITUTION – ECOLOGY in the context
of the SAALT/SALALS conference (South African Association for Language
Teachers / South African Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Association).

The general call for the SAALT/SALALS conference is available at its web site:

This call ONLY concerns PAPERS FOR THE MORNING LANGUAGE-INSTITUTION-ECOLOGY.
You can send abstracts of +- 500 words to william.kelleher at up.ac.za. The
morning will be dedicated to discussions of full articles (not powerpoints!).
Other papers, of a more general nature, can of course be submitted on the
conference website.
