Description:

At the Faculty of Philology the following Junior Professorship is to be filled
starting on February 1, 2020.
 
W1 Junior Professorship Grammatical Systems of Non-European Languages
(Position will be offered for 3 years and is extendable another 3
years after successful evaluation.)

The holder of this position will conduct both teaching and research in the
subject area. Applicants are expected to have an excellent scientific record
in grammatical theory, in the area of morphology, phonology, or syntax, and to
have an internationally visible research
profile. 

Further expertise in at least one of the following areas is desirable: 
- An area of grammatical theory that complements the main area of expertise;
- Linguistic fieldwork;
- Mathematical linguistics; 
- Semantics. 

The professorship will involve teaching duties at both graduate and
undergraduate levels. Willingness to participate in cooperative research
projects is expected.

Rights and obligations of the jobholder are within the Saxonian university law
(SaechsHSFG) §§ 63, 64, 70 and the Saxonian public service task regulation
(Saechsische Dienstaufgabenverordnung, DAVOHS). Applicants must meet the
requirements of § 63 SaechsHSFG.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent by the starting date. The junior
professorship is considered a position for post-doctoral qualification.
Therefore, the call is addressed to applicants with a completed doctoral
degree who seek further qualification. If applicants were employed as research
associates or research assistants prior to or during the completion of their
doctoral studies, the total period of employment and work on the doctoral
thesis should not exceed six years.

The University of Leipzig emphasizes the equality of women and men.

qualified.

Knowledge of German is desirable but not necessary in the first instance,
though it is expected that the successful candidate will be willing to learn
the language to a sufficient degree to be able to teach introductory courses
in German.
