Meeting Description:

'Accents' is an annual conference organized by the Department of English
Language and Applied Linguistics at University of Łódź, Poland. It brings
together researchers and teachers interested in native and non-native accents
of English, approached from a variety of theoretical and/or practical
perspectives. The key issues discussed each year include individual accent
characteristics, the dynamism of accent usage, accent in teaching and
learning, the methods and tools for accent studies as well as pronunciation
instruction. The leitmotif of Accents 2019 revolves around different contexts
for the use of specific pronunciation features in spoken discourse in
naturalistic and instructed settings.

Prof. Murray Munro, Simon Fraser University, Canada
Prof. Veronica Gabriela Sardegna, University of Pittsburgh, USA
Prof. Pavel Trofimovich, Concordia University, Canada


Call for Papers:

We invite proposals for papers, workshops and posters related to the main
theme of Accents across contexts as well as other issues related to native and
non-native accents of English, including, but not limited to the ones
mentioned below:
 
- Accents across domains: pronunciation in discourse
- Accents in natural environment: World Englishes, immigrant context,
sojourners, etc.
- Accents in educational contexts: ESL, EFL, ELF, ESOL, EAP, etc. 
- Pronunciation teaching, pronunciation instruction and instructed learning
- Native vs. non-native speaker pronunciation teacher
- English in Europe: pronunciation of Euro-English(es).

Please notice that each author can propose two contributions provided that one
of them is co-authored.  Papers are given 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes
for discussion, workshops will typically have 45 or 90 minute slots. Please
specify the intended presentation format in your proposal.

The deadline for abstract submission is August 15, 2019. Please send  two
copies of an abstract of up to 400 words (excluding references) to
accents at uni.lodz.pl, with the intended format, name and affiliation written
under the title in one copy. The proposals will go through the process of peer
review, after which notifications of acceptance will be sent out by September
30, 2019. Information on our previous conferences can be found at
