Description:

Position:
The Linguistics Department at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) invites
applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position to
teach Sociolinguistics and other courses in Linguistics starting August 2019.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Linguistics by August 2019,
teaching experience, and scholarly currency in sociolinguistics, ideally with
a background in linguistic issues in urban settings and quantitative methods.
Candidates with research agendas or teaching experience in discourse analysis,
anthropological linguistics, language contact, and minority languages are also
encouraged to apply. 

Teaching will include general education classes and other courses in the
Linguistic Department’s minor and MA programs. Successful candidates will
contribute to University efforts to address student enrollment, retention, and
success, including an overall commitment to teaching from the introductory to
graduate levels, as well as provide support for requirements such as First
Year Experience, University Core Curriculum, and the Writing Intensive
Program. We seek a candidate who will create and continue relationships with
local community organizations, promote interdisciplinary partnerships within
the NEIU community, and procure funding for research and implementation of
linguistic diversity and preservation outreach in schools and other
institutions.

applications January 20, 2019; no applications will be considered after
February 15.

- Cover letter describing qualifications and research interests;
- CV;
- Unofficial transcripts of education (official transcripts required for those
invited for campus interviews);
- Description of teaching experience and methods;
- Three letters of reference (with at least one addressing teaching
experience); 
- A sample of academic writing;
- Employment application;
- Statement of annuitant status.
