Meeting Description:

The 10th International Corpus Linguistics Conference (CL2019) will take place
in the week of 22 – 26th July 2019 at Cardiff University. Corpus Linguistics
is a biennial conference which has been running since 2001 and has been hosted
by Lancaster University, the University of Liverpool, and the University of
Birmingham. This will be the first time that the conference will be held at
Cardiff University, Wales. We are planning a range of exciting entertainment
as part of the conference, including opt-in walking and open-top bus tours,
conference receptions, and the conference dinner which to be held at the
iconic Principality Stadium (the home of Welsh rugby) and will feature local
duo Little Rock. Further information on the conference fees, events and
planned entertainment can be found on our website (although please note that
you will not be able to formally register until the early bird registration
link becomes live on 14 February 2019). There will a pre-conference workshop
day on Monday 22 July. Coordinators can propose to hold half-day or full-day
workshops (lunch is provided). The main conference will take place from 23 –
26 July, 2019.

2nd Call for Papers:

Deadline for abstracts: Monday 14 January

We invite contributions on a broad and inclusive basis. There are 3 categories
of proposals (full papers, posters and panels). All proposals will be
peer-reviewed by the conference programme committee. The conference will
feature four thematic streams and a general programme. The thematic streams
are as follows:

Stream A: Corpus Methodologies
Stream B: Applications of Corpus Linguistics
Stream C: Discourse, History and Society
Stream D: Language Learning and Teaching

Papers focusing on languages other than English, and non-native varieties of
English are particularly welcome.

Submission information:

We particularly encourage submission of abstracts from early-career
researchers, including postgraduate research students and postdoctoral
researchers.
To submit a proposal for the main conference, go to the CL2019 proposal portal
on EasyChair ( https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cl20190 ). At your
first visit, you will need to register for the conference proposal system, and
thereafter you will be able to access the site with your user name and
password. Individuals can submit more than one proposal but will be limited to
two acceptances (as lead author). Please note that proposals can be entered
into the system at any time before the deadline, but that the proposal remains
open for editing at any point up until the deadline of midnight (GMT) on 14th
January 2019.

There are 3 categories of proposals:

- Full papers
Consisting of a 20-minute talk followed by 10 minutes for questions and
discussion. Submissions should present either complete research, or research
in progress where at least some substantial results have been achieved. Work
in progress which has yet to produce results can instead be submitted as a
poster abstract. We are requesting extended abstracts (750-1500 words,
excluding the word count for references), as we do not plan to produce a
volume of conference proceedings. The extended abstracts will be published
electronically shortly in advance of the conference.

- Posters
Posters can present either results of completed research or work in progress.
Abstracts should be 250-500 words, excluding the word count for references. We
especially welcome poster abstracts that (a) report on innovative research
that is in its earliest phases, or (b) report on new software or corpus data
resources.

- Panels
Panels during the main conferences offer an opportunity to group related
papers together to allow extended discussions. Abstracts of 1500 words
(excluding references) are to be submitted on behalf of all speakers, with an
introduction specifying the relationship between the topics before details on
individual presentations (including names/affiliations of all speakers) are
given. Abstracts are to be submitted by the panel convenor(s). Panels will be
allocated 1 hour 40 minutes.

For the pre-conference workshop you can propose either a half-day or a
full-day event. Proposals should be 1000 words for a half-day or 1500 words
for the full-day (excluding references). They should also provide details on
whether the workshop will need a computer lab or any other technical
requirements.

Pre-conference proposals should be sent directly to the conference email
account: CL2019cardiff.ac.uk, with a subject line that begins: [cl2019-pcw]
