From: Marit Westergaard [marit.westergaard at uit.no]
Subject: Arctic MSCA program in Tromsø

UiT The Arctic University of Norway has established The Arctic MSCA-IF program
(uit.no/afu/arcticmsca) to recruit excellent young researchers planning to
apply for a Marie Skƚodowska-Curie individual fellowship (MSCA-IF) to pursue a
career in research. We invite applications from promising young researchers
within the field of Language Acquisition and Multilingualism. The selected
candidate will write a proposal for a 24-month MSCA-IF at UiT together with
Prof. Marit Westergaard. This is an opportunity to accelerate your research
career while living in the urban research city of Tromsø, uniquely located at
the top of the world surrounded by some of Europe’s last pristine wild nature.

This call is one of 21 from pre-selected supervisors at UiT The Arctic
University of Norway through the Arctic MSCA-IF program
(uit.no/afu/arcticmsca/supervisors). Successful postdoc candidates will be
invited to Tromsø (travel and accommodation expenses covered) for a three-day
MSCA-IF symposium May 13-15, 2019. At this event, the candidates will present
their past research achievements, discuss future plans with their potential
supervisor and learn how to write a successful MSCA-IF application. Together
with the supervisor, the selected candidates will write their MSCA-IF
application over the summer. Deadline September 11, 2019.

In this call we search for talented, young researchers within the field of
Language Acquisition and Multilingualism as presented by Prof. Westergaard:

We seek applicants for 2-year MSCA postdoc positions in the active and
productive research group LAVA, which does cutting-edge work on language
acquisition, variation, and attrition. The LAVA research group is also part of
AcqVA, which is a joint Tromsø/Trondheim research community. Professor Marit
Westergaard, who is the leader of the LAVA/AcqVA groups, is currently involved
in two externally funded projects, MiMS, which investigates micro-variation in
multilingual situations, and MultiGender, which focuses on grammatical gender
in various languages in multilingual contexts. Applicants for the advertised
MSCA positions should propose a research project that will strengthen and
complement the research of the LAVA/AcqVA groups, in particular the research
areas of Professor Westergaard as described in the MiMS and MultiGender
projects.

Work in the LAVA/AcqVA groups investigates both mono- and bilingual first
language acquisition, second and third language acquisition, and heritage
languages. The research has a theoretical foundation and the focus is on the
mental grammars of various populations of speakers. The object of study is
syntactic micro-variation and the importance of factors such as complexity,
frequency and economy in the acquisition process and in heritage language
situations. The research methodology includes corpora of spontaneous
production and different types of experimental work (e.g. production
experiments or eyetracking).

Please send your CV (max 3 pages) and describe a research project that will
strengthen and complement the presented research (max 2 pages) to
marit.westergaard at uit.no by Feb 8, 2019. Mark your Application ''Arctic
MSCA''.
