Description:

The Department of German Philology of the University of Göttingen offers a
position at the Division of Linguistics as a Research Associate (PhD
position).

The position is to be filled for a period of 36 months, starting on 1 April
2019. The salary is in accordance with the German state regulated public
service salary scale (E 13 TV-L). The working time is 65 % of the regular
weekly working hours (currently 25.87 hours per week).

The position is part of the research project “(A)symmetries and Movement in
Spoken and Sign Languages”, which is funded by the German Science Foundation
(DFG) and coordinated by Seid Tvica, Hedde Zeijlstra, and Markus Steinbach.
Mainly, the candidate will be responsible for the empirical and theoretical
investigation of syntactic asymmetries in sign languages, and how they differ
from corresponding asymmetries attested for spoken languages. 

Applicants are expected to have a MA degree in linguistics or a related field
with a strong background in theoretical syntax and sign language linguistics.
They are also expected to conduct empirical research on sign language syntax
and to be open to modern generative theories. Other requirements include the
capability to work in a team and a commitment to international collaborations.
