Description:

The University of Zurich invites applications for a Professorship in Digital
Linguistics

The position should be filled at the earliest opportunity. Depending on the
qualifications of the appointee, the professorship will take the form of a
chair or an assistant professorship with tenure track.

Applicants must have a strong research background in machine learning and
statistical modeling of language and/or speech data on the basis of corpora
and databases from the perspective of modern data science and language
technology, targeting linguistic research questions.

The person to be appointed is expected to develop a new focus area in digital
linguistics as part of the MA program in Linguistics and ensure excellent
training opportunities in data acquisition, data processing, and data
analysis. The new professor and her/his team will furthermore complement the
currently available training in computational linguistics and comparative
linguistics by offering courses in linguistic data science at BA, MA and PhD
level.

Applicants are expected to have demonstrated research excellence in her/his
dissertation and further publications in the relevant area as well as an

Since administrative work is conducted in German at the University of Zurich,
non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of
German within the first two years of appointment. The University of Zurich is
an equal opportunities employer and in particular strives to increase the
percentage of women in leading positions. Therefore, qualified female
