Meeting Description:

Join an international and interdisciplinary group of humor researchers for
ISHS 2019 in Austin, Texas. We will discuss humor from its basic definitions
to the latest research strands and everything in between.


2nd Call for Papers:

The call for papers for the 2019 Conference of the International Society for
Humor Studies (ISHS 2019) is open until March 15, 2019. You can submit an
academic paper (20+10 mins), posters, special panels with multiple presenters
(90-180 min), workshops (90 min), as well as other academic formats related to
humor research in the arts, humanities, and sciences.

Some suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

- Cognition and Creativity
- Public and Private Discourse
- Individuality and Individual Styles
- Culture and Diversity
- Health and Well-Being
- Language and Translation
- Media and Digital Technology
- Performance and Reception
- Body and Gender

Abstracts of up to 200 words should be submitted by March 15, 2019, through
the submission form (https://form.jotform.com/82965170375161).

Graduate Student Awards:

- ISHS Graduate Studend Awards (GSA)
- Christie Davies Award (CDA)
- The Don and Alleen Nilsen Young Scholars Award (DANYS)

GSA, CDA, and DANYS Award applicants must:

- Be an ISHS student member working toward a masters or doctoral degree(recent
PhDs, who received their doctorate after May 1, 2017, may also apply for the
CDA)
- Attend the annual ISHS Conference
- Propose an independently written conference paper (papers coauthored by an
advisor are ineligible)

GSA and DANYS papers may be in any area related to humor studies.

CDA papers must be from one of the areas within the cultural or social
sciences.

To apply for a GSA, CDA, or the DANYS Award, applicants must submit:

- a letter of intent, indicating the award for which they intend to compete
- a description of their research program within humor studies
- a curriculum vitae
- a conference paper abstract by March 15, 2019
- all required conference registration materials and fees

CDA and DANYS Award applicants must submit additionally their completed
Conference paper no later than April 20, 2019.

The ISHS Awards Committee will review each applicant’s materials and, based on
merit, make one recommendation for the DANYS Award, one recommendation for the
CDA, and two recommendations for GSAs. The Committee will present its
recommendations to the ISHS Executive Board for final approval, and the Board
will notify the GSA, CDA, and DANYS Award recipients of their awards in
advance of the Society’s annual Conference.

The GSA, CDA, and DANYS Award recipients will present their work at a special
session of the ISHS annual conference and will receive certificates of
achievement. The DANYS recipient will receive a stipend of $500 and the CDA
and GSA recipients will each receive a stipend of $250.

In addition to the regular conference paper submission, award application
materials should be submitted to ishs2019 at tamuc.edu. For additional
