Job Rank: Associate Professor

Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; General Linguistics

Required Language(s): Portuguese (por)
                      Romance

Description:

Main responsibilities:
The successful applicant is expected to teach various courses, as well as
supervise and examine degree projects and dissertations, in the subject of
Portuguese at the undergraduate and advanced levels. The languages of
instruction are Portuguese and English. The position comes with a special
responsibility for teaching and developing courses in grammar and language
proficiency at the beginner’s level. The holder of this position is also
expected to contribute to teaching and supervision at the postgraduate level,
participate in the administration of the department and develop its external
contacts. In addition, he or she is expected to actively seek external
research funding. The position includes time for research.

Qualification Requirements:
Applicants should have a PhD in Portuguese, or corresponding research
qualifications, as well as demonstrated teaching skills. Applicants must have
experience in teaching and supervision in the subject area of Portuguese. The
candidate must have the ability to cooperate, as well as the ability and
general suitability required to perform the duties well.

Assessment Criteria:
In the evaluation of candidates for this position, special emphasis will be
placed on research skills in Portuguese and, to an equal degree, on teaching
experience within the subject area. The applicant’s research skills should be
demonstrated through individual research within the fields of Romance
Linguistics or Second Language Acquisition, specializing in Portuguese.
Furthermore, the applicant's prospects for developing research in cooperation
with the Department’s researchers will be assessed. Teaching skills should be
documented in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the
teaching activities, which should include the planning, development and
implementation of teaching, as well as supervision, on BA, MA och PhD levels.

In addition, experience of developing courses in grammar and language
proficiency in Portuguese is an important advantage. Such experience may
include the writing of teaching materials, documented ability to work with
colleagues and fellow researchers, as well as documented teaching experience
in English.

Documented administrative skills, experience of international cooperation and
ability to interact with the surrounding community, is an advantage.

Finally, having planned and received external funding for research projects is
also considered a merit.

Teaching and Earning in Higher Education:
Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education worth at least
15 credits, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage.

Additional Information:
An applicant who does not have at least 15 higher education credits in
teaching and learning in higher education, and is not deemed to have acquired
equivalent knowledge, must complete such training within the first two years
of employment.

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but
the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative
duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.
