Call Deadline: 01-Feb-2019

Meeting Description:

This workshop aims to bring together scholars who are working on the formal
expression of negation in Germanic (including standard and non-standard
varieties). The workshop is organized within the research project The Syntax
of Negations in Swedish, a collaboration between the universities of
Gothenburg, Stockholm and Uppsala.

We welcome studies that deal with issues related to the morphology, syntax,
semantics or pragmatics of negation from a synchronic or diachronic
perspective. Questions that may be addressed include, but are not limited to:

- The distribution of negative concord in standard vs. non-standard varieties
of Germanic
- The interaction between the morphology of negation and syntactic
distribution
- Restrictions on stacking of negative elements
- Relationship to tense, aspect, modality
- Register-linked variation

Each presentation is given approximately 30 minutes (20+10).

Keynote speakers:
Östen Dahl, Stockholm University
Anne Breitbarth, Ghent University

We extend the deadline for abstracts. Please send in your abstract before

semantics or pragmatics of negation from a synchronic or diachronic
perspective. Both finished studies and works in progress are welcome.

2.5 cm or 1 inch, character size: 12 points), including references, figures,
