Description:

The Department of German Language and Literature I at the Faculty of Arts and
Humanities at the University of Cologne is looking to fill a position as
Postdoc in the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1252 Prominence in
Language.

Commencement of employment is scheduled for May 1st 2019. The postdoc position
offered is fulltime with weekly working time of 39,83 hours (100%) and is a
fixed-term working contract ending December 31st 2020. If the applicant meets
the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is
based on remuneration group 13 TV- L of the pay scale for the German public
sector.

As a basis for research sub project C04 Conceptual and referential activation
in discourse, we propose that prominence relations are among the core features
contributing to referent management - at the level of comprehension and at the
level of discourse planning. The overall goal of the project is to develop a
discourse model that can account for some key features in discourse
processing, in particular for those features that are associated with concept
activation and referent activation.

Your tasks:
- Preparing, conducting and evaluating eye-tracking and ERP experiments as
well as collaborating on fill-in-the-gap experiments (annotation and
statistical analysis of story continuation tasks)
- Assisting the principal investigator in leading the project as a whole and
networking with adjacent projects in the research area
- Presenting results to the research community at international conferences

- Ability to think in a team-oriented and conceptual manner and quickly
familiarize yourself with new topics
- High degree of self-reliance
- Fluency in German (written/spoken) and business proficiency in English
- Efficient, highly organized and result-oriented work process
- Doctorate completed by the time position begins
