Description:

The Department of Linguistics, University of British Columbia – Vancouver,
invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational
Linguistics, to commence no later than September 1, 2019. 

This position may be renewed for up to two years subject to budgetary approval
and positive appraisal of performance. The successful candidate must hold a
PhD (or expect to have successfully defended prior to the position start date)
and must be within five years of having been awarded the PhD degree at the
start of the position. 

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to participate actively in research
projects within the department and support the development and delivery of
Computational Linguistics curricula at the undergraduate level. Expertise in
computational modeling of natural language is required, as well as expertise
in one or more core areas relevant to the department’s research. The
successful candidate is expected to play an active role in the coordination
and direction of interdisciplinary research projects, bringing together
computational tools with more traditional linguistic theory and methods, as
well as in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate research assistants.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will also be expected to teach at least one
undergraduate course, and support the delivery of the Master of Data Science
in Computational Linguistics program. There will also be opportunities for the
Postdoctoral Fellow to interact with UBC colleagues on research and teaching.

research-associated costs, including conference travel.

- Evidence of teaching experience and effectiveness.
