Subject: Workshop on Working with Sociophonetic Data

On the 14th of June 2019, the University of Sheffield is hosting a workshop
intended to equip researchers with some of the skills required to conduct
sociophonetic research. On the day, attendees will be introduced to creating
an annotated database of spoken data, doing forced alignment, and extracting
vowel formant measurements in LaBB-CAT, by sociophonetician Holly Dann. This
will be followed by a sociophonetic data wrangling, normalization, and vowel
plotting in R session. There will also be a research talk with a focus on
sociophonetic methodologies from Dr. George Bailey.

The workshop is open to anyone who is interested in learning these technical
skills needed to conduct sociophonetic research, including all post-graduate
students and ECRs.

We are happy to be able to run this event free of charge, and lunch will be
provided.

To sign up to the event, and see some more information about the workshops and
the timing of the day, please click on the link provided. Spaces on the
workshop are limited to 20 people, and are first come, first served.
