Description:

The Department of Modern Languages at DePaul University invites applications
for the position of Director of the Translator and Interpreter Corps (“TIC”),
a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position. The successful applicant will
be able to demonstrate exceptional achievement as an administrator, teacher,
scholar or professional in one or more areas related to translation and
interpretation.

Responsibilities Include:
- Developing and teaching three courses in the Department of Modern Languages.
Two of these shall be pilot courses in furtherance of the new Certificate in
Translation and Interpretation and should include TIC experiences for
students. The course load associated with this position will also be
strategically managed to maximize enrollments in the language area of the
faculty 
- Working closely with affiliated faculty to design and propose MOL’s new
Certificate of Translation and Interpretation, which will be offered to
language majors, language minors from across the university, and to external
audiences starting in AY 2020-2021
- Recruiting, training, mentoring, managing, and evaluating TIC interns as
they work on their TIC projects (possibility for credit)
- Overseeing relationships with the community-based organizations (currently
twenty-five) that provide projects for TIC interns and other students
- Overseeing and coordinating collaborations with internal curricular and
co-curricular partners (like the College of Law or the Applied Diplomacy
Program in DePaul’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences)
- Managing all administrative and marketing work associated with the TIC
(maintenance of the website, publicity outreach, updating the D2L website,
purchasing materials)
- Working closely via the TIC committee with affiliated faculty in identifying
and meeting TIC’s curricular and service goals, including collaboration in
seeking grant funds to support scholarships for interns and professional
workshops.

We seek an individual who will enhance the university and the department’s
commitment to representing a rich diversity of faculty and research interests.
We seek candidates whose expertise would complement the existing strengths of
the department and the university, especially with regard to the university’s
urban, Vincentian mission, including those whose work crosses traditional
disciplinary boundaries. 

Specializations may include (but are not limited to):
- Translation, Interpretation, and Transcription in the legal, academic and
social service fields
- Program administration, including day to day activities, website management,
marketing, and development of quality assurance measures 
- Recruitment and training of undergraduate and graduate students in
translation and interpretation
- Curriculum development, including online and hybrid courses
- Building partnerships with community-based organizations
- Grant writing
