Job Title: Visiting Assistant Professor
Job Rank: Visiting Professor

Specialty Areas: Psycholinguistics

Description:

The Department of Linguistics, within the College of Arts and Sciences at the
Ohio State University, seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor in
Psycholinguistics, beginning August 2019. The College of Arts and Sciences is
the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College
hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world-class research centers, and
more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique
opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their
field. The College values diversity and offers a supportive, open, and
inclusive community.

The Visiting Assistant Professor will have primary expertise in
psycholinguistics and quantitative data analysis. The ideal candidate will
have a strong theoretical grounding in current linguistic theory, including
both mainstream and alternative approaches, in a core area of linguistics
(phonetics, syntax, semantics), as well as extensive expertise in current
psycholinguistic methods, such as eye-tracking, and quantitative data
analysis, such as mixed-effects regression or Bayesian modeling. Qualified
applicants must hold a PhD in Linguistics or a related discipline prior to the
appointment start date. One semester of college-level teaching in any role
(instructor, teaching assistant, grader) or equivalent is required. Experience
giving presentations at research conferences and/or publishing research in
peer-reviewed venues is required.

The Visiting Assistant Professor will engage in an active research program, as
evidenced by the publication of books, articles in scholarly journals,
participation in professional meetings, and publications in their proceedings.
Laboratory facilities in the Department of Linguistics and at the Language
Sciences Research Lab at the local science museum, the Center of Science and
Industry, will be available for use for research activities by the Visiting
Assistant Professor. The Visiting Assistant Professor will also contribute to
the teaching mission of the Department, with a standard teaching load of four
courses per year, including both graduate and undergraduate courses in
psycholinguistics, quantitative data analysis, and other areas as appropriate
given department needs and the Visiting Assistant Professor’s interests and
expertise. The Visiting Assistant Professor may also advise majors, minors,
and graduate students in their research.

Applicants should submit a Cover Letter, Curriculum Vitae, and Research
Statement to Academic Jobs Online at the application link provided below and
