Description:

The Department of Linguistics, University of British Columbia – Vancouver,
invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Phonetics, to
commence no later than September 1, 2019. 

These positions may be renewed for up to two years subject to budgetary
approval and positive appraisal of performance. The successful candidate must
hold a PhD (or expect to have successfully defended prior to the position
start date) and must be within five years of having been awarded the PhD
degree at the start of the position. 

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to participate actively in UBC’s
Interdisciplinary Speech Research Laboratory directed by Prof. Bryan Gick.
Expertise in one or more areas relevant to the lab’s research is required,
including articulatory phonetics, motor control, neurophysiology,
biomechanics, experimental methods or computational modeling of speech. The
successful candidate is expected to assist in the direction of the lab as well
as the supervision of undergraduate and graduate research assistants.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will also be expected to teach at least one course,
including at least one research-based seminar in a topic of their choice.
There will also be opportunities for the Postdoctoral Fellow to interact with
UBC colleagues on research and teaching. Information about the Department and

There will be some support for research-associated costs, including conference
travel.

research statement, 2 sample publications, evidence of teaching experience and
effectiveness. The cover letter should include a statement about experience
working with a diverse student body and contributions or potential
contributions to creating/advancing a culture of equity and inclusion.
