Call for Practical Applications Chapters | Global Englishes Language Teacher
Education

Proposal Deadline: August 1, 2019

Editors: Ali Fuad Selvi, METU Northern Cyprus Campus | selvi at metu.edu.tr
Bedrettin Yazan, The University of Alabama | byazan at ua.edu

Introduction and Scope:

Recently, scholars in the field of English language education have been
developing frameworks such as ELF-aware pedagogy (Bayyurt & Sifakis, 2015),
WE-informed ELT (Matsuda, 2018), EIL pedagogy (Alsagoff, McKay & Hu, 2012;
Holliday, 2013; McKay, 2002; Matsuda, 2012, 2017; Phan, 2008; Selvi & Yazan,
2013, Sharifian, 2009), and Global Englishes Language Teaching (Galloway,
2017; Galloway & Rose, 2015) to theorize language pedagogy to address the
contemporary sociolinguistic realities of Englishes across the world. The
common denominator of these efforts is to transform the deeply ingrained
values and practices in ELT by establishing closer and stronger ties to
teacher education practices.

Although scholars have worked on various aspects of teacher education through
Global Englishes (GE) lens (Matsuda, 2017), there is still a pressing need for
practice-oriented scholarship to support language teacher educators’ work with
pre- and in-service language teachers. Responding to this need, the proposed
volume will include five main sections, each of which will consist of a
chapter of theoretical background (i.e. brief state-of-the-art overview) and
chapters of practical applications (e.g., teacher education assignments,
activities, modules, lesson plans, resources, artifacts) to be used in Global
Englishes language teacher education. Due to its primary practical focus, this
volume will make important contributions to the growing Global Englishes
paradigm, and inform the work of teacher educators around the world who are in
constant need of sustainable practices to enhance their work with pre- and
in-service language teachers.

We invite authors to submit proposals for short practical applications
chapters (max. 2,000 words) connected to various aspects of Global Englishes
language teacher education (see below Table of Contents below) at three
distinct phases of pedagogy (Bayyurt & Sifakis, 2017; Sifakis & Bayyurt,
2017): (1) exposure, (2) critical awareness, and (3) action plan (Please visit
the Call for Papers website for a full description of these phases).
