Meeting Description:

The International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), through the
Department of English Language and Literature (DELL), together with the
Bilingualism Research Lab, Western Sydney University, Australia and the
Bilingualism Research Lab, Jinan University, GuangZhou, China, is hosting a
three-day conference to provide scholars, educators and students with a
platform to present and discuss issues which concern language and literature
in the digital era. This is the first time the three academic bodies have come
together to co-host an event that will provide an opportunity for scholars
from areas as diverse as linguistics, literature, education and information
technology.


Call for Papers:

Theme: Digital Trends in Language and Literature: Asia and the 21st Century

The International Conference on Language and Literature invites researchers,
students, and practitioners to submit abstracts and research papers on Digital
Trends in Language and Literature, with a particular focus on Asia and the
21st century. The conference will be held from 15 to 17 January, 2020 at the
KICT building, IIUM, Gombak, Malaysia.

We welcome researchers, students and practitioners to contribute to any of the
following:

1. Asian languages in globalised contexts

2. Asian sci-fi/fantasy/steampunk works

3. Corpus linguistics/multimodal stylistics/experimental approaches to digital
texts

4. Cultural linguistics/folk linguistics

5. Digital literacy/literacy studies

6. Digital natives/digital immigrants in language and literature

7. Digital sociolinguistics, discourse analysis and word coinage on social
media platforms and in literature.

8. Digital world-building in literature

9. English as a Second Language/Foreign Language

10. English for Specific Purposes

11. Identity and diversity in linguistic and literary varieties

12. Language acquisition and Bilingual/Multilingual Language Acquisition

13. Language and Popular Culture

14. Language and the New Media

15. Studies on disabilities in linguistics and literature

Important Dates:

1. The deadline to submit an abstract (max. of 300 words) and author details
is 2 September 2019.

2. Presenters will be notified of their selection by mid-September 2019.

3. Full paper submission is optional.

4. While submission of a full paper is not required, those who wish to have
their paper considered for publication in the following publications should
submit a copy by 31 November 2019;

a. Edited book (IIUM Press)

b. Translation and Interpreting (WSU, Scopus-Indexed)

c. The Journal of Huayu Teaching (JNU, non-Indexed)

d. Chinese Journal of Language Policy and Planning (Beijing-Press,
non-Indexed)

5. The paper must not exceed 8000 words and should be typed in single space,
Times New Roman 12 point.

6. The abstract and the full paper must be submitted in MS Word format.

7. The author(s) must include full contact details and a short biographical
note in his/her submission.

8. Each presenter is allowed 15 minutes to deliver their presentation and 5
minutes for questions.

9. Posters will be allocated a space for display and a specified time for
discussion. Upon submission of the proposal, please indicate whether your
proposal is to be considered for a paper, a poster or either.
