Old Frisian - Anglo-Frisian Connections

Focus: The summer school is meant to give students and researchers who are interested in Old Frisian in the context of Old Germanic, especially Old English, a chance to get acquainted with this small but fascinating member of the Old Germanic language family. The special topic is 'Anglo-Frisian connections'.
Minimum Education Level: Undergraduate


Special Qualifications:
The summer school is especially aimed at students or academics with an interest in Old Germanic languages.


Description:
There will be lectures on Old Frisian language and history in the mornings and
translation workshops in the afternoons to get familiar with a variety of
texts (legal, religious and legendary) By the end of the week, students should
be able to read Old Frisian texts with the help of a grammar and dictionary.
They should also have some knowledge of the major research questions in the
field. The summer school includes a visit to the Bodleian Library to see the
Old Frisian manuscripts in the Junius collection.
