Who we are:
Turning 150 years old in 2019, the University of Otago is New Zealand's first
and oldest University. It has a strong teaching and research tradition and
well-established national and international linkages. It is also one of New
Zealand's largest universities, with over 20,000 students, assets in excess of
$1.6 billion and 4,000 full-time equivalent staff based in Dunedin,
Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Invercargill.

The Linguistics programme at the University of Otago has a strong research
programme in language teacher cognition and development, experimental
linguistics, and Amazonian languages and grammatical descriptions.

The role:
As a Linguistics Lecturer within our Programme, you will teach papers in TESOL
(including a teaching practice paper), with the possibility of teaching into
papers in sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, first/second language
acquisition, and/or pragmatics.

You will also undertake tutoring and postgraduate MA and PhD supervision, and
may be asked to provide co-supervision in areas outside your own
specialisation.

Your skills and experience:
- Applicants should have (or have by 1 May 2019) a PhD in Applied Linguistics
or Linguistics (or a related field, e.g., TESOL).
- Some teaching experience at tertiary level.

Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of good teaching skills,
the development and delivery of new courses, and a track record of relevant
research and publications, particularly in one or more of the following areas:
- Second language teaching and learning (including TESOL).
- Second language acquisition, especially research on interaction.
- Conversation analysis, discourse analysis, or other types of interactional
analysis.
- Sociolinguistics, pragmatics, or semantics.
