Psycholinguistics Methods Course for Graduate Students:
Language Research from Conception to Publication

Dates: 14-18 October 2019

As part of the Norwegian Graduate Researcher School in Linguistics and
Philology (LingPhil), the Language Acquisition and Language Processing Lab at
NTNU in Trondheim is organizing a one-week intense methods course. We also
welcome linguistics graduate students from outside of the LingPhil community
to attend this course. The topics covered during this course range from the
conception of experiments all the way to writing up a study’s findings for
publication. The following sub-courses will be offered:

Introduction to data science for the language sciences (Dr. Damián Blasi)

Introduction to R (Dr. Laurel Brehm)

Scientific writing (Prof. Shanley Allen)

Lab Demonstrations (led by members of the Language Acquisition and Language
Processing Lab)
Short lab demonstrations where the students will be introduced to three
experimental methods used in psycholinguistics (i.e. eye-tracking, EEG and
fNIRS).

A preliminary programme of the course can be found on the LingPhil website:
https://www.ntnu.edu/lingphil/courses-and-events

How to Apply:

Since we have only a limited number of places for external participants,
places will be allocated based on a motivation letter outlining the relevance
of this course to the student’s own research.

If you would like to take part in this course, please send an email with your
cover letter (max 1 page) as well as your CV to isabella.fritz at ntnu.no

Costs:

There is no attendance fee for this course. We will provide free lunch on
teaching days as well as one course dinner for all participants (LingPhil and
external students). Students are responsible for their own accommodation and
travel arrangements.

If you have any questions about travelling to Trondheim and/or accommodations
close to the university, please just send an email to Isabella Fritz
(isabella.fritz at ntnu.no)

Deadlines:

Deadline for applications: 15 April 2019
Notification of acceptance: End of April
Binding registration for accepted applicants: 15 May 2019
