Job Title: Instructor in Syntax

Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Chicago invites
applications for a two-year position as Instructor in syntax, to meet areas of
departmental need created by the reduced duties of a current faculty member.
The Instructor will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in
syntax and other areas, and an undergraduate Core course in the Humanities.
Applicants should also be prepared to supervise graduate and undergraduate
student research, to participate in the intellectual life of the Department,
and to engage in scholarship and research in syntax. The teaching load will be

previous teaching experience at the University level is highly desired.

Applications must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, the names and
contact information for three references, a research statement, a writing
sample, and a teaching statement that details teaching experience and which
courses the applicant would be prepared to teach. Teaching evaluations (or a
teaching portfolio) may also be submitted. Applicants must submit all
materials electronically at the University of Chicago's Interfolio jobs board
at the application link provided below for posting 44555.

The committee will begin to review applications on April 26, 2019, and will
continue until the position is filled or the search is closed. For questions
about the position, contact Karlos Arregi at karlos at uchicago.edu.

Position is contingent upon budgetary approval. The position is expected to
begin September 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter, and candidates are
required to have completed the PhD by the position's expected start date.
