Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics; Discourse Analysis; Historical Linguistics; Ling & Literature; Typology

Call Deadline: 30-Jun-2019

Meeting Description:

The conference aims at providing new insights on the contemporaneity of
literary genres compared to text typology and discursive tradition. The
classical division between poetry and prose, between the lyric, the epic and
the tragic, between closed and open forms, etc., seems to be more and more
unable to reflect “transversal genres” (e.g. vulgarisations), brief forms
compared to longer texts, combined forms (e.g. tales, lyrical prose/ poème en
prose, etc.) and the various types of contamination affecting the literary
genre, such as the inflow of discursive traditions.

The literary text has been historically influenced by other types of texts:
scientific/expositional, philosophical-religious/argumentative, etc., not only
in terms of content, but also vocabulary, syntax and presumed text forms. It
will be interesting to assess linguistic change depending the intentions of
the examined authors, as well as the adjustment of the code depending on
variables generally associated to parameters of the literary genre.

Dates: September 20-21, 2019
