Meeting Description:

2019 has been declared by UNESCO as the International Year of Indigenous
Languages. In this regard the Institute for Linguistic Studies of the Russian
Academy of Sciences announces the International Conference ''Documentation of
Languages and Dialects of Indigenous Peoples of Russia''.
In this rapidly changing world, languages and dialects that do not have a
large number of speakers are under the threat of an ever-increasing limitation
of their use. The primary task of the researcher is the maximum possible and
high-quality documentation of languages and dialects in their natural use.
However, various situations often arise during the work with a native speaker
which can change the workflow of the documentation process. Nowadays there are
various technical means of recording, decoding, annotating, analyzing and
archiving of linguistic materials. Many of us are documenting endangered
languages and have an extensive experience in using various tools of
documentation as well as different approaches to solving the documentation
problems in the field. The conference will primarily focus on the problems of
the documentation of languages and dialects of Indigenous Peoples of Russia in
the field.

A list of areas which will be covered at the conference on the material of
languages and dialects of indigenous peoples of Russia includes:

- field research methods
- theoretical background of language documentation and the use of archival
materials
- quality and diversity of data obtained during the documentation process
- description of phonetic, grammatical and lexical phenomena using field
research methods
- archival data processing
- corpora and digital archives development
- ways of presenting the received data
- use of documentation data for cultural and ethnic identity
- unknown archival data
