Subject: Graduate Certificate program in Linguistics (NEW)

Offered through Boston University’s Metropolitan College, the Linguistics
Graduate Certificate program is designed for students with a BA who are
interested in pursuing a graduate degree in linguistics but who lack the
necessary background in Linguistics. This is likely to be the case for
students who have developed an interest in linguistics late in their
undergraduate studies or after they received the BA degree. This certificate
will prepare students to submit applications to Linguistics MA or PhD programs
at BU or elsewhere. The program may also be of interest to professionals in
the Boston area working in related fields who would like to gain some
knowledge about linguistics.

Students take 4 4-credit courses (normally 2 in the fall and 2 in the spring).
Although all of the courses are cross-listed with the BU College of Arts and
Sciences, and thus taught by our regular Linguistics faculty members, when
they are taken through Metropolitan College on a part-time basis (i.e., no
more than 2 per semester), the cost is reduced.

Students should already have taken at least an introductory course in
linguistics prior to applying. We will start accepting applications by June 1,
2019. Those interested in entering the program in September 2019 are strongly
encouraged to apply by August 1, 2019.

For further information, see our website
<http://ling.bu.edu/grad/degrees/cert> or contact Prof. Neidle (carol at bu.edu).
