Teanga: The Journal of the Irish Association of Applied Linguistics
Guest Editors: Irene Murtagh and Lorraine Leeson

Introduction to this special volume:
We would like to invite you to consider contributing to this special volume of
TEANGA, dedicated to work related to Irish Sign Language. This is a timely
volume, which builds on the policy developments that led to the passing of the
Irish Sign Language Act in December 2017, and the critical mass of research
that has been carried out on aspects of the linguistics and applied
linguistics of the language. Indeed, November 2018 saw the inaugural Irish
Deaf Research Conference (IDR2018), organized by the Irish Deaf Research
Network (IDRN), and hosted by the Centre for Deaf Studies in the Trinity Long
Room Hub, Trinity College, Dublin. The goal of this conference was to
highlight and to share the very rich and diverse scientific research in this
domain.

Against this backdrop, we invite evidence-based paper contributions within the
domain of linguistics, applied linguistics or linguistics in action exploring
a range of key issues relating to Irish Sign Language.

Examples of possible topics include, but are not limited to the following:
- Language Description
- Language Rights
- Language policy and practice issues
- Access to civil society
- Translation and Interpretation (T&I)
- Applied sign linguistics
- Sociolinguistics of Irish Sign Language
- Linguistic theory
- Computational linguistics

Project reports and book reviews are also welcome - please contact the editors
to discuss proposed submissions in this regard.
