Workshop on language documentation: multilingual settings and technological
advances

Uppsala University

24-26 October 2019

The workshop will provide a forum for discussing issues related to language
documentation in multilingual settings and recent technological advances. This
includes challenges of carrying out documentation of multilingual settings as
well as contributions of recent technological advances in data collection and
efficient data processing.

Invited speakers:

– Friederike Lüpke, SOAS University of London
– Colette Grinevald, Université Lyon
– Helene Fatima Idriss, University of Khartoum  
– Niclas Burenhult, Lund University
– Henrik Bergqvist, Stockholm University


Call for Papers:

We invite researchers to submit abstracts for presentations at the workshop,
including, but not limited to, the following topics:

– Challenges and contributions of multilingual data;
– Managing the interplay between field data and theory;
– Integrating sociolinguistic variables in the description of
lesser-documented languages;
– From fluent speakers to rememberers: sociolinguistic profiling of speakers;
– Digital dictionary development of lesser-documented languages;
– Technological support for language documentation;
– Linguistic fieldwork and interdisciplinary research collaborations (e.g.
anthropology, ethnobiology, geography, musicology, information and
communications technology);
– Community-based language documentation

Abstracts should be not longer than one (A4 or letter) page excluding
references. Abstracts - in pdf format only - should be sent to Easychair
(https://easychair.org/cfp/UPPLADOC_2019)

Deadline for abstract submission: 17 June 2019
Notification to authors: 8 July 2019
