Description:

The School of Communication and Culture invites applications for the position
of associate professor ("lektor") in English linguistics with a specialisation
in language variation and change, based at the Department of English.

The appointment is tenured and begins on 14 January 2020 or as soon as
possible thereafter.

The Position:
We are looking for a dedicated colleague with research experience in English
language variation and change (regional, social and historical), who is
qualified to teach the obligatory courses in English linguistics as well as
specialised elective courses in English language variation and change at BA
and MA level, and who will strengthen the research and teaching profiles of
the department nationally and internationally.

The associate professorship includes tasks and responsibilities in all of
Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, teaching, talent
development and knowledge exchange, and may also include some administrative
responsibilities such as participation in committees.

Research:
The Department of English prioritises research of the highest international
standard and offers numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary research
collaboration. The successful applicant will be expected to publish original
peer-reviewed research in English linguistics, making internationally
recognised scholarly contributions to the field. The successful applicant will
be expected to contribute to the research community at the department by
participating in new collaborative research projects with internal and
external partners, and with a view to securing external research funding.

Teaching and Supervision:
The position includes teaching courses in English language variation and
change as well as obligatory courses in English linguistics, including
phonetics/phonology, morphology, semantics, syntax and pragmatics as well as
sociolinguistics and the history of the English language at BA and MA level.
Responsibilities also include teaching interdisciplinary courses for students
at the Department of English and possibly for other students at the School of
Communication and Culture.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD degree or must document equivalent qualifications
in a relevant field related to English language variation and change as well
as teaching and research experience equivalent to that attained through an
assistant professorship. 

All courses on the BA and MA degree programmes in English are taught in
English. Nevertheless, if the successful applicant does not speak Danish, he
or she will be required to acquire sufficient Danish to participate fully in
the activities of the School of Communication and Culture within two years of
commencing the appointment.
