Meeting Description:

Continuing the symposium series which has been held in Dublin (2010, 2013),
Limerick (2015), Bergen (2016), and Potsdam (2018), the sixth symposium on New
Perspectives on Irish English will be held at the University of Vienna from
19–21 February 2020. 

NPIE6 is being co-organised by John Kirk in collaboration with the Centre for
Irish Studies (Director: Dr Dieter Fuchs) and a small, peer-reviewing
programme committee. The venue will be the Institut für Anglistik und
Amerikanistik, Universität Wien (Hof 8.3, AAKH Campus). Enquiries should be
sent to John at his email address below.

It is envisaged that the programme will be in single, plenary sessions
throughout. There will be a talk on 'Ireland and Vienna' by Dieter Fuchs, who
will also lead a short walking tour to places of Irish interest in the centre
of Vienna.


Call for Papers:

Contributions on any and all aspects of English and Scots in Ireland, North
and South, and their diasporas are invited! Research-based papers should be 20
minutes in length, to be followed by ten minutes of discussion. Proposals for
panels or workshops will also be welcome! 

The abstracts should be no longer than 300 words (excl. references, which
nevertheless should be given) and should be sent by email as Word files to
john.kirk at univie.ac.at by 31 May 2019. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed.
Notification of acceptance will be issued by 30 June 2019, at the latest.
