Description:

Laboratory technician for speech & brain lab (initially 1 year, 50 – 60 % FTE)

We will soon be opening a new Center for Linguistic Research Infrastructure
(LiRI) at the University of Zurich. LiRI involves researchers and research
teams studying language from a wide range of perspectives. The Center provides
support for language scientists with different backgrounds working with
different kinds of experimental (e.g. eye-tracking, EEG, behavioral) and
natural linguistic data (audiovisual, textual and speech data), see also
www.liri.uzh.ch .

The center seeks to fill the position of a laboratory technician to assist and
manage the setting up of the experimental speech & brain laboratory. This
laboratory will comprise of a number of connected experimental rooms for
speech and brain measurements, in particular in some of the following
techniques:
- Acoustic and video recordings of speech
- Electromagnetic Articulography (EMA)
- Electroencephalography (EEG)
- Ultrasound for articulation studies
- Electro Glottography (EGG)/Laryngography
- Pharyngometry
- Eye tracking

Tasks:
The successful candidate will assist in setting-up the new Zurich laboratory
infrastructure in the section speech & brain. The candidate will work closely
with faculty members on their requirements for the laboratory and will manage
the implementation. The candidate will also work with architects and engineers
on the best solutions and designs for the experimental rooms as well as with
LiRI and university admin on budgets and financial requirements. 

Requirements:
- Experience with speech & brain experiments and ideally with setting up
laboratory environments
- Degree (BA or MA) or comparable qualification in speech
sciences/phonetics/sound engineering/psychology or related field. A related
PhD in one of the experimental areas is considered an asset.

Job conditions:
The position is to start in February or March 2020 for one year with the
possibility of extension after the build-up phase into a laboratory manager,
subject to performance and budgetary developments.
