Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Specialty Areas: Morphology; Semantics; Syntax; Fieldwork

Description:

The Department of Linguistics and English Language at The University of
Manchester seeks to appoint a postdoctoral research associate from May 1 2020
through to August 2023, working on the European Research Council Consolidator
Project “The lexical semantics of lexical categories” (PI, Andrew
Koontz-Garboden).

You will form part of a team whose goal is to elucidate through the study of
property concept lexemes (see Dixon 1982, Thompson 1989) and constructions in
which they appear, the meaning of nounhood, verbhood, and adjectivehood. The
project will do this through broad typological study and detailed semantic and
morphosyntactic fieldwork on individual languages (which will be identified as
part of the initial stage of the project).

Your key duties will include working on the typological study; carrying out
fieldwork; publishing results; and carrying out organizational duties tied to
the administration of the project.

Essential criteria include a PhD (or near completion) in linguistics or a
cognate area; expertise in formal semantics and the syntax/semantics
interface; experience (or proven potential) of high quality research; ability
to publish research findings at an international level.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of
the community regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation
and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.

Please note that we are unable to respond to enquiries, accept CVs or
applications from Recruitment Agencies.

Interviews are provisionally scheduled for February 17, 2020.
