Reed College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor
position in Linguistics with a focus in phonetics and phonology for the
2020-21 academic year, to commence in August 2020. 

Reed is a selective undergraduate-only liberal arts institution with a
commitment to teaching excellence and scholarship. The successful candidate
will join a small but comprehensive undergraduate linguistics department and
offer five semester-long courses. These will include LING 320 Phonetics, LING
321  Phonology, LING 211 Introduction to Linguistic Analysis (co-taught with
another member of the department), and two upper-division courses in any  area
of phonetic and/or phonological expertise. The successful candidate will also
advise yearlong senior thesis projects, and serve as the director of the Lab
of Linguistics (LoL), which includes the supervision of the student LoL
manager. 

PhD earned or expected (i.e. defense date scheduled) is required for
appointment. Appropriate fields for the PhD include Linguistics, Speech
Science, and Phonetics, among others. Candidates with expertise in
experimental methods, quantitative analysis, or the structure of understudied
languages and language families are particularly encouraged to apply.
Experience in teaching and in advising student research projects is also
highly desirable.
