Description:

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science at the University of York,
UK, invites applications for PhD programmes starting in October 2020.

Several funding schemes are available:
- WRoCAH (AHRC) funding for UK/EU students wanting to study for a PhD.
- ESRC DTP funding for UK/EU students wanting to study for a PhD (+3) or
Masters + PhD (1+3).
- Wolfson Foundation funding for students of any nationality to study for a
PhD.
- Overseas Research Scholarships for international students to study for a
PhD.
- Acton-Goodman PhD Scholarship, open to students of any nationality to study
for a PhD within the Morrell Centre for Toleration (Law School).

The UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the UK Economic and
Social Research Council (ESRC) fund studies through collaborative doctoral
training partnerships. These partnerships are responsible for the distribution
of studentships and for the coordination of a doctoral training programme.
AHRC and ESRC funding is available to UK students (fees + stipend of
approximately £15,000) and EU students (fees only). Note that the
Acton-Goodman scholarship is open to applicants from any country, but covers
fees at the UK/EU rate. As the awards will be hosted by the Law School they
are most likely suited to topics in forensic linguistics.

Applicants for funding in all schemes must have applied for a PhD and/or
Masters place at York. Note that the application forms are detailed and
require considerable time to prepare. You should follow the University of
York’s online application procedure at the following URL:
https://www.york.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/apply/instructions/

Enquiries about all awards and applications may be sent to Professor Paul
Foulkes at the contact information below.

The closing deadline for AHRC and ESRC applications is Wednesday 29 January
2020. The deadline for the Overseas Research Scholarships and Acton-Goodman
Scholarships is Friday 31 January. The Wolfson deadline has not yet been
confirmed, but in the past has also been towards the end of January.
