Meeting Description:

The ICSRC is a premier international conference covering interdisciplinary
dialogues on semiosis and focuses on the conceptual understandings of sign
actions and processes which are manifested in society through various forms of
representation. The Semiosis Research Center is a research institute sponsored
by the National Research Foundation of Korea and has strived to suggest a new
humanities framework appropriate for studying language use, human
interactions, social networks, and cultural development.

The 5th ICSRC will be held on May 8, 2020 at Hankuk University of Foreign
Studies, Seoul, Korea focusing on the theme “Semiosis and the Humanities”.
This conference will bring together a wide range of interrelated studies,
linking disciplines such as media and communication, literature, the visual
and performing arts, translation, linguistics, psychology, and anthropology,
among others. Focusing on semiosis in its multiple dimensions (such as
representation, codification, entextualization, and interpretation), this
conference will provide a dialogic forum to discuss cognitive and social
phenomena using intra/inter-textual and multimodal frameworks.


Call for Papers:

The abstracts can be related, though not restricted, to the following topics:

- Perception and emotion in language
- Image and interpretation
- Narrative, media, and genre 
- Conversational storytelling 
- Graphic storytelling and visual narratives
- Narrative, experience, representation (e.g. travel narratives)
- Narrative, mind, mediation
- Identity, community, narrative ideas
- Narrative interpretation and communication
- Narratives and institutions (e.g., politics, businesses, etc.)
- Translation as a semiotic activity 
- Cross-cultural comparative literatures
- Cognitive and semiotic approach to multimodal texts
- Context specific multimodality
- Media semiosis in communication 
- Intervisuality and intertextuality  
- Transmediation and interpretation 
- Multimedial representation in art 
- Transmedial storytelling 
- Internet linguistics
- Digital age semiotics and communication 
- Semiosis and cultural activity 

We invite submissions of abstracts (approximately 400 words in length) for one
of the following two categories:
1. Oral presentations (20-minute presentation + 10-minute discussion)
2. Posters (for a dedicated poster session)
