Description:

We are currently hiring a Senior Linguistic Engineer, with near native
Mandarin, for our Aachen office - you'll have the chance to work with over 40
languages and have real world impact on products sold in the healthcare and
enterprise businesses, such as Dragon TV voice control and our ambient
clinical intelligence product that enables clinical documentation to write
itself (see links below).
You'll manage language data analysis and resources for ASR and NLU as well as
work closely with other engineers, research scientists, and project managers
to create consistent speech products across languages and dialects. You'll use
your analytical mindset, strong communication skills, collaborative attitude,
and personal drive to achieve team goals. You will be an expert in phonetics,
phonology and data analysis, having a passion for the scientific study of
language, and research experience that includes a thorough understanding of
scientific methods and experimental design.

You will:
- Provide linguistic expertise in the areas of phonetics, phonology,
lexicography, dialectology, and NLP
- Analyze field data and bug reports
- Create and manage lexical transcriptions and related meta data
- Analyze system metrics, such as lexicon transcription coverage and
part-of-speech tagger performance and remedy pain points
- Design and conduct experiments for evaluating transcription quality
- Create and improve text normalization and formatting processes
- Collaborate with other linguists, data scientists, engineers, and project
managers to achieve project goals

You Should Have:
- MS or PhD in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Language Technology,
Speech Science
- Minimum of 2 years experience, which can be through research
- Ability to speak and write in Mandarin natively or near-natively
- Ability to speak and write English fluently and idiomatically
- Proficiency in other East Asian languages, in particular Japanese, Korean,
Vietnamese, Thai is a plus
- Experience in phonetics and phonology and other areas of linguistics, such
as semantics, syntax, field work, and NLP
- Strong Python programming skills with knowledge of standard data structures
- Experience using Unix/Linux and shell scripting
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills:
- Industry or academic experience with large vocabulary speech recognition
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning,
statistical modeling, deep learning
