Focus: Are you interested in how African-Americans communicate?

Are you interested in the experiences of African-Americans in higher education around the U.S.?

Would you like free preparation for graduate school, including GRE courses and help with graduate program and fellowship applications such as the Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship, the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, and others?

If so, apply to join us in Summer 2020 at UC Santa Barbara for the Talking College/UCSB-HBCU Scholars in Linguistics Program! This program is jointly sponsored by the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates and the University of California HBCU Initiative.
Minimum Education Level: Undergraduate


Special Qualifications:
Participants must be a major or minor in linguistics or a closely related field.


Description:
The NSF REU Site: Talking College and the UCSB-HBCU Scholars in Linguistics
Program are a joint initiative of the Department of Linguistics at the
University of California, Santa Barbara that brings together undergraduates
from UC Santa Barbara, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and other
institutions throughout the United States. During this summer research
program, students will receive training in linguistics, preparation for
graduate school, and experience in conducting original research that extends
their understanding of African-American language, culture, and community.
