Lecturer, Lower-Division Spanish Language Coordinator

The Department of Hispanic Studies at Davidson College, a highly-selective
liberal arts college 20 miles north of Charlotte, NC, seeks to hire a
Lecturer, Lower- Division Spanish Language Coordinator of Hispanic Studies.
This non-tenure track position will initially be a three-year appointment,
with the expectation, upon satisfactory review, of multi-year contracts moving
forward

The teaching load is 6 courses annually. Coordinating elementary through
intermediate Spanish language, however, will earn a one course release
yielding a teaching load of 5 courses annually. The successful candidate must
provide evidence of a record of excellence in Spanish language teaching at the
undergraduate level.

As the Spanish language coordinator, the candidate will be responsible for
continuing:
- To build, evaluate, and maintain a cohesive three-semester language
sequence;
- To develop the student Assistant Teacher (AT) training program--including
recruitment, selection and training of ATs; to place incoming students into
elementary and intermediate language classes; and
- To assess the learning outcomes of language courses.

Additional responsibilities include mentoring students and participation in
departmental and college-wide initiatives that support Hispanic Studies.
Professional development will be expected and supported in the area of
Second-Language Pedagogy. The Language Coordinator will work closely with
other language instructors and will report to the Chair of Hispanic Studies.

Qualifications:
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English required.
- MA required, with preference given to candidates with a degree in Applied
Linguistics or Second-Language Acquisition in Spanish.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with best practices in language
pedagogy, including assessment tools, and a record of excellence in Spanish
language teaching.
