Description:

Junior Professor in “German Linguistics or German Literature and Media Studies
/ specialisation: digital communication in contexts of learning and teaching”
(Salary Class Group W 1 LBesO W – with Tenure Track as per W 2).

The incumbent is to represent the sub-discipline of German Linguistics or
German Literature and Media Studies. The field of work entails the area of
data based analysis of digital communication and of digital media formats in
learning and teaching contexts.

The Junior Professorship is located at the Faculty of Humanities and is linked
to the research platform "Education in the Digital World" (ForBild), which is
currently being set up and in which researchers from Computer Science,
Psychology, Educational Sciences and the Humanities cooperate closely and on
an interdisciplinary basis. In this dynamic, cross-faculty working context,
the professorship further develops its research approaches creatively and
actively contributes to the design and the further development of the research
platform, to which it contributes with its specifically humanities
perspective.

Applicants are to prove their capacity by published work in the field of data
based analysis of digital communication or of digital media formats from the
perspective of Linguistics and/or Literary and Media Science. 

The preconditions for the application are: 
- A university degree in German language, literary and/or media studies, an
outstanding doctorate with a relevant focus as well as further-reaching
scientific performances. 
- An affinity to the analysis of language, communication and/or media formats
in learning and teaching contexts is desirable, as is practical experience in
the field of digitally enhanced teaching/e-learning.
- Publications in the field of expertise in peer-reviewed journals are
expected, especially in leading international journals.
- Experience in the procurement of competitive third-party funding,
involvement in international research and international experience are
desirable. Furthermore, leadership experience in research is beneficial. 
- The University of Duisburg-Essen places great emphasis on excellence in
teaching. Candidates must present their teaching concepts, showing their
relevance to the research profile of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
- Applicants must show aptitude for participation in academic
self-administration.

The hiring requirements comply with § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North
Rhine-Westphalia (HG).
Teaching requirements currently are four hours of teaching during the first,
and five hours of teaching during the second employment stage of the Junior
Professorship. Employment is contingent on the presentation of the
corresponding requirements for temporary civil service. The duration of
employment complies with § 39 Sect. 5 HG.
