Description:

The Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese at The Pennsylvania State
University invites applications for a tenure-track position in second language
acquisition/bilingualism at the assistant professor level. The Spanish
Linguistics section in our department derives its strength from the cohesion
of its faculty, which rests on the commitment to empirical inquiry and the
triangulation of evidence from a variety of approaches to linguistic analysis.
We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in second language
neurocognitive methods (electroencephalography-EEG), in any area of linguistic
study, including phonology, morphology/morphosyntax, syntax,
semantics/pragmatics. The successful candidate will also be welcomed into the
rich collaborative environment of the Center for Language Science
(https://cls.la.psu.edu/). 

The position requires a commitment to developing a strong research record of
publications, as well as undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring,
and participation in the full range of faculty responsibilities. In addition,
successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building
an inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community, or describe one or more
ways how they would envision doing so, given the opportunity. Ph.D. in Spanish
or related field in hand at the time of appointment is required. Native or
near-native fluency in both Spanish and English is also required. This
position will start August 2020.
