Description:

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of
Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a
full-time, renewable, nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position at the rank of
Lecturer in Arabic Language and Literature, beginning August 16, 2020.

Requirements:
M.A. degree or higher in Arabic language and literature or other relevant
area, including second-language acquisition, linguistics, and language
pedagogy. Other requirements include native or near-native proficiency in
Arabic (Standard Arabic and a colloquial variety) and English and at least
three years of experience teaching Arabic language at a US college/university.
Candidates with demonstrated expertise in language-learning technology and
designing online materials are particularly welcome.

Compensation:
Salary is competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience, and
includes a full benefits package.

Duties:
- Teach 3 undergraduate language classes per semester;
- Contribute to a robust undergraduate major in Foreign Languages and
Literatures – Arabic Specialization by collaborating with colleagues to ensure
smooth articulation across the levels of language instruction and by
participating in course design and creation;
- Contribute to the UF Quest program, multidisciplinary general education
courses in the arts and humanities meant to enhance undergraduate students’
experiential learning,
- Provide extracurricular support of the program through service that includes
placement or proficiency testing, weekly language tables, and other activities
relating to extracurricular Arabic language use;
- Supervise an Arabic study-abroad program in rotation with other instructors.

The Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures is home to multiple
language programs. It offers training in languages and cultures from all

students the opportunity to become cross-cultural experts in an ever more
internationalized world. The Department is committed to creating an
