Assistant Professor in Korean Language and/or Linguistic

The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-track
Assistant Professor position in Korean language and/or linguistics to support
the new major in the Asian Studies department. 

Areas of specialization open, but preferably include:
- Second language learning and teaching, functional/pedagogical approaches to
Korean linguistics or related field;
- Applications of theoretical/methodological lenses to Korean language
teaching (e.g., learning theory(ies), Sociocultural theory, conversation
analysis, genre-/discourse-based pedagogy, semantics/pragmatics, cognitive
linguistics, corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, applied phonology, language
assessment); and
- Heritage language teaching and learning.

Further, we are interested in Korean language specialists with interests and
experience in Korean language teaching at all levels--from elementary through
advanced; innovative and interactive approaches to curriculum and multimodal
teaching materials development for all levels, incorporating language,
interaction, and culture; teaching with technology; American Council on the
Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR)
Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) scales; teaching Korean (applied) linguistics
and/or pedagogy at undergraduate and graduate levels; undergraduate language
program development; study abroad programs in Korea; and grant writing.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment
to building an inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community, or describe
one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity. Teaching
responsibilities include: undergraduate language and applied/socio-/corpus
linguistics courses; undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of
specialization as related to Korean.

Start date: 
July, 2020 preferred

Requirements:
- Ph.D. in hand by date of appointment,
- Native or near-native ability in Korean and English;
- At least two years of teaching experience (Korean language/content) at the
college level;
- Relevant research achievements or evidence of relevant research promise.
