Lecturer - Formal Semantics - Linguistics

- The Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley, is
seeking a two-semester appointment for one, full-time (100%) lecturer in
Formal Semantics in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. Duties include teaching six
courses, Ling 121 “Formal Semantics” (for undergraduate majors), Ling 221,
“Advanced Formal Semantics” (for graduate students), Ling 290B “Topics in
Linguistic Theory: Semantics” (a graduate research seminar), Ling 5 “Language
and Linguistics” (a freshman linguistics course), and two others to be
determined. In addition, the duties include holding regular office hours,
calculating grades, advising students, preparing course materials and exams,
managing graduate student instructors, and attending appropriate
meetings/orientations, etc.
- Salary will be based on the University's annual pay scale for lecturers,
between $56,381 and $63,788, commensurate with past college-level teaching
experience.
- UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are
exclusively represented by American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.
- Basic Qualifications (by time of application):
Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program at time of
application.
- Additional Qualifications (by start date): Advanced degree by start date.
- Preferred Qualifications:
PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Linguistics and demonstrated
excellence in teaching courses at the college level.
- For those who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit
that allows work in the United States (such as a U.S. visa that allows
employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is
unable to provide a visa/work permit for this position.
