Meeting Description:

The Red Europea para el Estudio de las Lenguas Andinas (REELA) will hold its
fifth meeting from 10-12 September 2021 at the University of Tübingen,
Germany.  As is usual for REELA conferences, any topic in Andean linguistics,
of whatever regional and thematic focus, is welcome, and papers can be
presented in Spanish, English, or one of the major Andean languages.

Alongside a general session, the conference will include a special session on
“Advances in the historical linguistics of the Andes,” which will provide a
platform for presenting and discussing recent research on the linguistic
history of the Andes. Contributions to the special session are especially
welcome.

Even though REELA is primarily a European network, experience has shown that
interest of scholars from the Americas in the meetings is high. However, not
all universities are able to cover travel expenses fully or at all. Therefore,
for this REELA conference, 10 travel subsidies of € 500 each are available for
scholars (from Latin America, but also from elsewhere) whose expenses cannot
be covered (fully) by their institutions or who currently do not have an
institutional affiliation. The funds for the subsidies come from the budget of
the Tübingen-based research group “The Language Dynamics of the Central
Andes,” which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and whose
financial support is gratefully acknowledged. An important note: for
administrative and legal reasons we can only pay out the subsidies *after* the
conference, i.e. interested parties would have to initially cover all costs
themselves.

La Red Europea para el Estudio de las Lenguas Andinas (REELA) celebrará su
quinta reunión del 10 al 12 de septiembre de 2021 en la Universidad de
Tubinga, Alemania. Como es habitual en las conferencias de la REELA, cualquier
tema de la lingüística andina, de cualquier enfoque regional y temático, es
bienvenido, y las contribuciones pueden ser presentadas en español, inglés o
una de las principales lenguas andinas.

Junto con una sesión general, la conferencia incluirá una sesión especial
sobre ''Avances en la lingüística histórica de los Andes'', que proporcionará
una plataforma para presentar y discutir investigaciones recientes sobre la
historia lingüística de los Andes. Se recibirán con particular interés las
contribuciones a la sesión especial.

Aunque la REELA es principalmente una red europea, la experiencia ha
demostrado el interés elevado de los académicos de las Américas en las
reuniones. Sin embargo, no todas las universidades pueden cubrir los gastos de
viaje parcial o totalmente. Es por ello que, para esta conferencia de la
REELA, se ofrecen 10 subsidios de viaje de 500 euros cada uno para los
académicos (de América Latina, pero también de otros lugares) cuyos gastos no
pueden ser cubiertos (en su totalidad) por sus instituciones o que actualmente
no tienen una afiliación institucional. Los fondos para los subsidios
provienen del presupuesto del grupo de investigación con sede en Tubinga ''The
Language Dynamics of the Central Andes'', que es financiado por la Fundación
Alemana de Investigación (DFG) y cuyo apoyo financiero es reconocido con
gratitud. Una nota importante: por razones administrativas y legales sólo
podemos pagar los subsidios *después* de la conferencia, es decir, los
interesados tendrían que cubrir inicialmente todos los costos por sí mismos.


Call for Papers/Llamar por Papeles: 

We welcome abstracts (which, like presentations, can be in Spanish, English,
or an Andean language) of max. 300 words excluding references, which should be
sent to matthias.urban at uni-tuebingen by February 28, 2021. We would like to
ensure that a maximum of interested scholars can present. Therefore, as was
the case for the previous 2015 meeting in Leiden, we will only make a
selection from the abstracts if the number of submitted abstracts exceeds the
number of available slots. If you wish to apply for one of the travel
subsidies, please indicate this in the mail with which you submit your
abstract and confirm informally that your institution cannot, or cannot fully,
cover your travel expenses. If the number of applications for subsidies is
greater than 10, subsidies will be assigned by lot. Notification of acceptance
of abstracts and information of whether or not a subsidy can be granted will
be given by March 15, 2021, together with information on travelling to
Tübingen, accommodation possibilities, etc.

Los abstracts o resúmenes (que, al igual que las presentaciones, pueden ser en
español, inglés o un idioma andino) de 300 palabras excluyendo las
referencias, deben ser enviados a matthias.urban at uni-tuebingen antes del 28 de
febrero de 2021. Dado que nos gustaría asegurarnos de que el máximo de
académicos interesados puedan presentar, al igual que en la reunión de 2015 en
Leiden, solo haremos una selección si el número de abstracts presentados
excede el número de plazas disponibles.Si desea solicitar una de las
subvenciones para los viajes, por favor indíquelo en el correo con el que
presenta su abstract y confirme de manera informal que su institución no puede
cubrir, o no puede cubrir totalmente, sus gastos de viaje. Si el número de
solicitudes de subsidios es superior a 10, los subsidios se asignarán por
sorteo. La notificación de la aceptación de los resúmenes y la información
sobre si se puede conceder una subvención se dará antes del 15 de marzo de
2021, junto con información sobre el viaje a Tubinga, las posibilidades de
alojamiento, etc.
