Meeting Description:

The Institute of English, University of Łódź, and the Polish Cognitive
Linguistic Association/PCLA are pleased to announce the annual conference
Cognitive Linguistics in the Year 2020.

The conference will take place from 24 to 26 September 2020 (Thursday to
Saturday) at the Faculty of Philology, Pomorska Str. 171/173
(http://filolog.uni.lodz.pl/).

Fees:
The conference fee is 650 PLN/200 EUR for regular participants and 500 PLN/150
EUR for doctoral students and participants without a paper. The fee covers
conference materials, cost of post-conference publications, 3 lunches, gala
dinner, 5 coffee breaks, and social programme (to be announced later). It does
not cover accommodation and transport to and from Łódź.


Call for Papers:

We invite proposals of papers and theme sessions on the following aspects of
cognitive linguistic enterprise:
- experiential basis of meaning
- embodiment of meaning
- multimodality
- meaning construal (metaphor, metonymy, metaphor-metonymy interaction, mental
spaces, blending) from synchronic and diachronic perspectives
- image schemas and their properties
- categorization in language and linguistics
- universal vs. culture-specific conceptualizations
- cross-linguistic patterns in conceptualizations of space, time, mind,
morality, and the self
- linguistic relativity
- semantic frames, domains, and idealized cognitive models
- the role of context in language use
- cognition and translation
- cognitive aspects of non-verbal communication
- cognitive views of grammar (linguistic categories, constructions,
grammaticalization)
- cognitive categories in art, culture, and politics

Presentations:
Please send the proposals of oral presentations to ptjk2020 at uni.lodz.pl by 15
April 2020. Each abstract (ca. 500 words including bibliographical entries in
APA format) will be peer-reviewed. The proponents will be notified of its
acceptance or rejection by 15 May 2020. Each participant will be allowed 20
minutes for their presentation plus 10 minutes for discussion. It is
recommended that one participant should present no more than a single paper.

Conference languages are English and Polish.

Theme sessions:
The deadline for theme session submissions is 15 March 2020, with
acceptance/rejection notifications by 20 March 2020. A theme session proposal
should include the title, a description (max. 300 words, including
bibliography in APA format) and a list of presenters. Once a theme session is
accepted, papers should be individually submitted for review.

Publication(s):
The organisers plan to publish selected peer-reviewed papers in two thematic
volumes with an international publisher in 2021 or 2022 and in a special issue
of the journal Lodz Papers in Pragmatics in 2023. Conference participants are
also encouraged to submit papers to the PCLA’s electronic journal LaMiCuS –
Language, Mind, Culture and Society.
