Description:

LabEx EFL (Empirical Foundations of Linguistics, http://www.labex-efl.com) is
recruiting a postdoctoral researcher on ellipsis. The position is for 12
months (full time) and can be renewed for another 12 months. The position is
provided by the research strand on « Experimental Grammar in a cross
linguistic perspective » of the Labex EFL project. The ideal profile combines
linguistic expertise in syntax, semantics and/or  pragmatics with advanced
skills in experimental linguistics and/or statistical modeling. 

The postdoc will work within the context of the Ellipsis work package, more
precisely on the empirical foundations of ellipsis, using corpus data and/or
designing and running experiments. Phenomena currently being studied within
Ellipsis include VP ellipsis, gapping, sluicing and Right Node Raising.
Language(s) to be studied will depend the postdoc’s expertise.

There are no teaching requirements in this position. However, regular
participation in collective scientific activities (e.g., seminars) will be
expected.  Knowledge of French is helpful but not required.

Research Environment:

The postdoc will be affiliated with the Laboratoire de Linguistique Formelle
(LLF http://www.llf.cnrs.fr/), located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
The LLF is an interdisciplinary research laboratory linked to the Department
of Linguistics (UFR de Linguistique) at the Université de Paris
(https://u-paris.fr/), which brings together researchers from computational,
experimental, theoretical, and descriptive linguistics. The lab has a sound
attenuated chambers with experimental material (eyetracker, SMI glasses,
portable EEG...), and houses  computing infrastructure for machine learning.
Research will benefit from the support of an engineering team with competence
on linguistics resources, experimentation and computing. 

Starting date and salary: 

The intended starting date of the position is Sept 7, 2020. The applicant's
PhD must have been defended and filed by the starting date. The position will
pay 26.000 euros net per year.
