Job Rank: Post Doc; Researcher

Specialty Areas: Anthropological Linguistics; Applied Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Language Documentation; Sociolinguistics; Language Policy and Planning

Description:

Vacancy Number 033761

The University of Glasgow seeks to appoint a Lord Kelvin Adam Smith Fellow in
Language Policy and Linguistic Sustainability to contribute to our
world-leading profile in the study of the languages of Scotland and minority
languages in general. The LKAS Fellow will develop an ambitious research
agenda which will inform language policy-making in Scotland, with a focus on
the Scots language and its prospects for sustainability. We are looking for a
scholar with an outstanding capacity for innovative research into minority
languages and their future, drawing on cutting-edge developments across the
humanities and social sciences [in areas such as sociolinguistics, applied
linguistics, ethnography, political science, and anthropology]. In addition to
an excellent postdoctoral track record and research outputs in any
linguistic-minority context, the candidate should be able to present evidence
of knowledge exchange and outreach activities establishing connections between
policy makers, academia, under-supported language communities and wider
society.

Our flagship LKAS Fellowship Scheme was established in 2006 to enable the
recruitment of outstanding researchers who are in the early stages of their
careers and are on a trajectory to become leaders in their chosen field. The
scheme offers Fellows the opportunity to establish or further develop an
independent research career.

Each Fully Funded Fellowship will run for five years; progression to Years 4
and 5 is dependent on Fellows meeting specific performance targets as agreed
at the start of the Fellowship.

Salary will be on the University's Research and Teaching grades 7 or 8 (Grade
7: £35,845 - £40,322 per annum, Grade 8: £44,045 - £51,034 per annum). In
addition to the salary funding, an allowance for research costs will be made
at a rate of £5,000 per annum for each year for non-laboratory-based research.

Once in post, Fellows will be appointed a mentor from outside their immediate
line management, be entitled to participate in any of the training programmes
and courses offered by the School/Institute, College or University, and be
required to report their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities
as agreed with their Line Manager through the Performance and Development
Review (PDR) process.

In addition to completing the online application form, you will also be
required to complete a separate application document, to be appended to your
cover letter. For Main Duties and Responsibilities as well as Essential and
Desirable criteria, visit the application link below.
