Subject: English; German; Morphology; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics: Post Doc, University of Oxford

University or Organization: University of Oxford
Department: Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics
Job Location: Oxford, United Kingdom
Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Linguistics
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Morphology; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics

Required Language(s): English (eng)
                      German (deu)

Description:

Professor Aditi Lahiri and Professor Carsten Eulitz have been awarded a 3 year
research project “Complexity in Derivational Morphology: Theory and
Experimental Evidence” under a UK - German Funding Initiative in the
Humanities. The project is a joint theoretical and experimental effort to shed
light on the question of complexity in derivational morphology. It will be
jointly run at the University of Oxford UK and the University of Konstanz
Germany, with regular communication between the partners.

The overall role of the postdoctoral post at Oxford (based at the Language and
Brain Laboratory, Wellington Square Oxford, with some travel to the University
of Konstanz in Germany) is to be responsible for the planning, design,
implementation and analysis of the experimental (electrophysiological) part of
the project (under the guidance of the PIs) which investigates different
aspects of morphological (derivational) complexities in English and German.
More specifically, the goal is to explore electrophysiological measures to
investigate the covert decomposition of words. The English experiments will be
run at Oxford. However, the postdoctoral researcher is also expected to
participate in the theoretical analyses with Professors Lahiri and Plank and
coordinate and collaborate with the doctoral student and Professor Eulitz at
Konstanz.

The postholder will work with the PI to explore electrophysiological measures
to understand the covert decomposition of words, varying morpho-phonological
and morphological conditions.

The postholder will have a doctoral degree in Linguistics or Psychology (with
a focus on language) or a related field; the ability to carry out EEG
acquisition and analysis of EEG data independently; and evidence of an
excellent background in independent neurolinguistics research, particularly in
EEG.
